Hollywood's iconic Arby's cowboy hat sign is riding off into the sunset to make way for this massive chain

For decades, the glitz and glamor of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood has been aided by a massive, light-bulb covered cowboy hat. Soon, those lights will flicker for the final time.

The famous Arby’s sign at 5920 W. Sunset is set to come down in the near future to make way for a new tenet. The restaurant itself closed permanently last year after 55 years in business.

A spokesperson for the quickly growing chicken chain Raising Cane’s confirmed to KTLA that it will be taking over the location. The new Raising Cane’s is expected to open in the late summer or early fall of 2026.

The spokesperson told KTLA that the location is a “strategic fit” for the company as it seeks growth in the Los Angeles market.

“Positioned to serve both eastern Hollywood and central LA, it offers access to a dense residential base as well as a strong daytime workforce, including nearby entertainment studios like Netflix,” the spokesperson said. “Additionally, there are very few drive-thru options along this stretch of Sunset Blvd., making it an ideal spot to deliver the speed, convenience, and quality our customers crave.”

Raising Cane’s will perform a renovation to the current building, keeping its drive-thru while “respecting the iconic character of Sunset Blvd.”

As for the gigantic cowboy hat sign, don’t worry Angelenos, you might be able to see it at another nearby Arby’s location.

The Raising Cane’s spokesperson told KTLA that discussions have been ongoing with Arby’s representatives about the plan for the sign. The spokesperson indicated that Arby’s would like to relocate the sign to another store within the L.A. area.

Since last summer, the location has been home to a pop-up drive-thru only Prince St. Pizza . It’s not yet clear when that will close.
