PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — For Hispanic Heritage Month, Prince George’s County residents will be able to embrace Hispanic and Latino culture through a series of festive activities and events.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation will host the celebration from Sept. 14 through Oct. 15.
Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Sept. 15 and lasts until Oct. 15.
The department is organizing 14 events, including traditional dance performances, art exhibitions, family-friendly festivals, live music and activities.
“We are thrilled to host these events during Hispanic Heritage Month, offering our community a chance to learn, celebrate, and honor the rich contributions of Hispanics and Latino Americans,” said Bill Tyler, director of M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County. “Prince George’s County is home to a thriving Latino population, and this year’s celebrations reflect the Department’s commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and cultural appreciation.”
Here is a short list of a few of the festivities taking place:
Latinas in Aviation Global Festival- Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the College Park Aviation Museum
- The 4th annual Latinas in Aviation Global Festival features children’s activities, food, giveaways, a concert performance, bilingual story time and more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from Latina pioneers in the aviation industry. The event is free.
Hispanic Festival- Sunday, Sept. 15, from 12:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Lane Manor Park
- The Hispanic Festival is celebrating its 40th anniversary. According to the parks department, the free festival draws over 10,000 people to Lane Manor Park in Adelphi. The festivities include live entertainment, carnival games, cultural foods, exhibitors and more.
Festival Del Rio- Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Bladensburg Waterfront Park
- Attendees can explore the outdoors and the Anacostia River at the 9th annual Festival Del Rio Anacostia. Festival-goers can enjoy hands-on activities, food, crafts, live animals, free boat rides, giveaways and bilingual conversations about how to become “better stewards” of the watershed, according to the parks department.
Hispanic Heritage Month Celebración- Sunday, Oct. 13, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Prince George’s Publick Playhouse in Hyattsville
- The celebration is free and includes art exhibits by Hispanic artists, live music, dancing, refreshments and arts and crafts.
