HERNDON, Va. (DC News Now) — Herndon police said a man is facing several charges after a gun, marijuana and several knives were discovered in his car during a traffic stop.
According to the Herndon Police Department (HPD), on Jan. 16 just after 8:30 p.m., an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Spring Street, near Wood Street.
Police said the driver then tried to turn onto Elden Street but had to stop due to oncoming traffic.
Police said when officers approached the vehicle, they spotted a gun in the driver’s lap. Officers secured the gun and the driver, identified as 48-year-old Trent Taylor Binford, was detained.
While searching the vehicle, authorities found a machete, a large bowie knife, four smaller dagger-life knives, a large jar of marijuana, a scale, cash, a safe and prepackaged cannabis vapes, according to HPD.
Police charged Binford with five counts of possession of a firearm/weapon by a convicted felon, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, eluding law enforcement and failing to obey a highway sign.
He was being held without bond at the Fairfax County Detention Center.
