While bald eagle parents Jackie and Shadow wrestle with the responsibilities of parenting, their two brand new chicks are still nameless.
The Friends of Big Bear Valley, which operates the 24/7 livestream at the bald eagle family’s nest, opened a naming contest on Friday for the two eaglets.
In exchange for name suggestions, the nonprofit is asking for small donations. For $5, you can suggest one name, for $10 you can suggest three and for $25 you can suggest 10.
Since the genders of the chicks aren’t known yet, the Friends of Big Bear Valley are requesting gender neutral suggestions. The deadline to suggest names is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 28.
On April 1, third, fourth and fifth grade students at Big Bear elementary schools will vote on a randomly selected group of finalists via secret ballot. That night, the Friends of Big Bear Valley will announce the winners on its social media platforms.
Only the two surviving chicks will be named through the contest. The chick who sadly passed away in the recent snowstorm was named Misty, after former Friends of Big Bear Valley Kathi Misterly, who lost her life to cancer.
