CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Millions across the political spectrum have already cast their votes early ahead of Tuesday’s general election, including more than 300,000 people in West Virginia.
The Mountain State set a record with 310,421 early votes cast, accounting for around 29% of registered voters in the state, according to the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office. This beat the record set in 2020 by more than 70,000 votes.
A ruby-red state, West Virginia saw the majority of early votes coming from Republicans. They made up around 46% of voters. Democrats made up around 30%, voters without a party made up around 19%, and Libertarian, Mountain and other voters made up just under 5%.
26,300 people requested absentee ballots and 21,660 were returned, the Secretary of State’s Office said.
