(NewsNation) — What happens in the voting booth stays in the voting booth, a new Harris campaign ad reminds women. Meanwhile, a new survey found that people lie to loved ones about who they vote for.
Half of Gen Z voters and a quarter of U.S. voters have lied about their voting selections, a survey from The Harris Poll found.
The Harris Poll, unaffiliated with the Kamala Harris campaign, is a global consulting and market research firm.
According to that same poll, conducted in partnership with Axios, 33% responded saying political differences have created distance in their families.
The younger the voter, the more likely this statement is true, with experts saying younger Americans raised on smartphones are conflict-averse.
The Harris campaign seized the opportunity with a controversial ad targeting women they believe will be afraid to vote differently than their significant others, reminding them that the choice for president is theirs alone.
“You still voting for him?” one man asks another in the ad.
“Hell yeah. What about your wife?” the other man responds.
“She doesn’t like him, but she’s voting for him.”
“Same with mine.”
The women vote for a different candidate without their husbands knowing.
The Lincoln Project, a self-described “pro-democracy organization,” published the ad titled, “Secret.”
Democrats hope to capitalize on the female vote.
“Your vote is your secret,” the ad says. “He’ll never know.”
