A BRIT mum allegedly shot dead by her ex-Dreamboys partner in her idyllic French farmhouse has been described as “the heart” of her community.
Mum-of-four Jayne Gregory, 49, is said to have “spent time and money making it a home” after moving from the UK.
And within a few months of meeting former Dreamboys stripper George Goodayle, 47, last year, they opened a bar called The Pink Pony Hut at their farmhouse – but were forced to close after a wrangle over permission with the local mayor.
Goodayle is understood to own a house just a few miles away, but neighbours said he appeared to have been living with Ms Gregory.
He handed himself into police on Monday morning and said he accidentally shot his girlfriend, who he had been dating since June, the night before.
Officers found her body at her sprawling farmhouse in the tiny hamlet of Les Champs, not far from the town of Brillac, Charente, in south west France. She was found with two bullet wounds, prosecutors said.
The hamlet of Les Champs is made up of eight properties. Ms Gregory’s farmhouse The Stables is by far the biggest.
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “Jayne moved here a couple of years back, she spent time and money making it a home.
“She was there on her own for a time, but her kids would come to see her.
“I don’t think she’d known George that long, I’d only met him a couple of times.
“I wouldn’t say I took to him, but to be fair I don’t really know him that well.
“This is a very small place and the majority of people here are English.
“She had a lot of friends in the villages around here. I think that’s how she met George. He said he had a place over here.
“What’s happened has shocked everyone. Her best friends are devastated. We don’t really know too much.”
The farmhouse now stands empty, with doors sealed by police.
A Range Rover Evoque bearing UK plates was spotted on the drive.
A solitary floral tribute, a bouquet of pink flowers, had been left on the doorstep, along with a blank card bearing a pink love heart.
Ms Gregory’s horses grazed in the field at the rear of the property, which boasted a swimming pool.
She moved to France five years ago with her former partner, but when that relationship ended she moved on, buying the large farmhouse with several acres of land.
Another local said: “She loved animals, especially her horses and dogs.
“Jayne was stunning, she liked being noticed, but she had a good heart.
“She’d often invited neighbours for drinks and a food. She was at the heart of most things.
“She loved apperos and that didn’t change when George came on the scene. They seemed to be in love.”
The couple occasionally visited the only bar in nearby Oradour-Fanais. Staff said they appeared “happy together”.
“She was a very attractive woman, she seemed to be very well liked,” said the owner.
“We saw them in here a few times, they looked happy.”
Within a few months of meeting they had opened a bar called The Pink Piny Hut at the farmhouse, but were forced to close after a wrangle over permission with the local mayor.
Goodayle was taken into custody on Monday on suspicion of spousal murder, Angoulême’s Public Prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
He walked into the police station in the town of Confolens 15 miles from the scene of the shooting, saying he had killed his partner the night before in an accident with a hunting rifle.
Gendarmes went to the property and found “a lifeless body” according to the Public Prosecutor’s statement.
Prosecutors confirmed they had opened a criminal investigation into the murder of a spouse using a firearm.
Goodayle appeared before a judge on Wednesday, where he was indicted for the murder of a spouse and placed in pre-trial detention.
A magistrate from the Angoulême prosecutor’s office attended the scene, along with a medical examiner from the Poitiers Institute of Forensic Medicine.
Initial findings of the investigation confirmed the victim was a 49-year-old British woman, who had been in a relationship with the man since June 2025.
“The on-site examination by the forensic pathologist confirmed the presence of two ballistic wounds in the victim’s upper body,” the statement said.
