WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Former president Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will go head-to-head for the first time Tuesday night in Philadelphia.
The Trump campaign believes this debate is more important for Vice President Kamala Harris than for former president Donald Trump.
It may be their only shot to talk about their different visions for the country, it’s the only debate scheduled.
The National Constitution Center, in Philadelphia, will host the key debate between the former president and current vice president as they battle to lead the nation formed in the city of brotherly love.
“What the American public is going to see is a stark contrast in two candidates,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.).
Trump will try to paint Harris as a San Francisco liberal and talk about her record as district attorney, according to a senior member of the Trump campaign.
Trump will try to get Harris to explain why she hasn’t made the changes she wants already, as vice president.
“We cannot afford four more years of failure and weakness under Kamala Harris,” said Rep. Elise Stefanik.
According to the Harris campaign, the vice president will try to look toward the future while highlighting Trump’s inconsistencies around abortion.
She’ll argue Trump is unstable and unfit to be president echoing other Democrats.
“Donald Trump talked about Hannibal Lector. So that’s the choice we have in front of us,” said Rep. Ted Lieu.
Nebraska representative Don Bacon says Trump needs to do just one thing.
“Be respectful, and if he does that he’ll win,” said Bacon.
There is no audience, and the candidates are not allowed to have notes during the 90-minute debate.
