Fashion designer Christian Siriano showed up to co-host “E! Live From the Red Carpet” Sunday for the Academy Awards pre-show, but the Annapolis native didn’t go it alone.
He was there to see some of his latest designs being worn down the red carpet by A-list celebrities.
“It’s such a wild ride and I still don’t know who’s wearing something. I’m gonna find out with you guys,” Siriano said, explaining that celebrities and their stylists often have several options available and he doesn’t always know if his design is the one until he sees it on the red carpet.
“We work so hard as designers … but it really is to honor, like, beautiful fashion, beautiful, amazing talent. That’s what it’s all about,” Siriano said, dishing about his recent work including dressing Ariana Grande in a ballerina pink tulle dress for her recent trip to Tokyo.
Siriano, 39, has been dressing Hollywood stars for the Oscars for over 15 years, since winning “Project Runway” in 2008. One year, 17 women wore his designs to the awards show, according to Harper’s Bazaar.
“Growing up, the red carpet, I loved it watching as a little boy, It’s my favorite thing,” said Siriano, who authored a book “The New Red Carpet,” released in September.
“Dressing Billy Porter in a gown at the Oscars and him being the first man to ever wear a dress at the Oscars was a significant push forward in our industry that I think changed the perspective of how men and women can dress on a red carpet or in their everyday life,” Siriano told The Sun in an interview in 2024.
So, which stars showed up to the Oscars in Siriano’s designer looks? Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg, Queen Latifah, and Jessica Renee Williams, to name a few.
For Goldberg’s look, Siriano described it as “liquid water.”
“Whoopi doesn’t wear gowns that often … but we did it tonight and she looks incredible,” Siriano, 39, said. “I will dress Whoopi Goldberg to the end of my career.”
