HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — The Hagerstown community managed to get through the overnight snowfall greeting them to start the week.
Although it is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, schools and government offices were closed and many businesses were on flexible schedules.
But residents were out with snow shovels and snow blowers, clearing sidewalks and driveways.
At the YMCA on the north end of town, just getting there was an accomplishment.
“I made it,” Vee said upon arriving at the front desk. “The back roads were not done but, you know, Dual Highway, the main roads, were pretty easy to come through. I took my time. I made it here.”
Kyle lives on the south end of Hagerstown and said he made sure to get rid of the snow from his driveway before it froze over.
“Because I knew if I didn’t do it last night it would turn to rock,” he said.
Residents are reminded to protect their pipes and keep pets indoors, use portable heaters safely and check on neighbors and friends.
