Dramatic video shows a person armed with a gun opening fire on a California Highway Patrol squad car during a reported street takeover in Compton.
The incident happened early Monday morning at the intersection of Rosecrans and Atlantic avenues.
Footage obtained by RMG News and shared with KTLA shows the gunman running at the CHP vehicle and firing several shots as bystanders watch from just a few yards away.
After the shots were fired, the CHP driver quickly sped away while the gunman and others in the area fled in the opposite direction on foot.

Authorities were unable to immediately provide any information regarding anyone shooting at an officer, although a CHP spokesperson did confirm to KTLA that the only call they had in the area came in around 2 a.m. near Atlantic Avenue and Compton Boulevard and was regarding “a possible street takeover.”
No additional information was logged following the response, the CHP spokesperson said.
