Sam Neill of the Jurassic Park franchise is the latest addition to the cast of the new theatrical Monsterverse film from Legendary.
No word on the role he’ll tackle. Neill joins a cast that includes Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Dan Stevens, who reprises his role as veterinarian Trapper Beasley from last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the highest-grossing installment in the franchise.
The film is said to place several new human characters alongside Titans Godzilla and Kong, as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat. Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) is directing from a script by Shang-Chi‘s Dave Callaham, taking over the directorial reins from Adam Wingard following his work on The New Empire and Godzilla vs. Kong.
Launched with Godzilla in 2014, Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise also includes Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, as well as Netflix’s animated spin-off Skull Island and the Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The films, released by Warners, have grossed over $2.5B worldwide.
Known for starring in the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchises at Universal, as well as films like The Piano and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Neill was most recently seen starring in Peacock’s limited series Apples Never Fall, based on the novel by Big Little Lies’ Liane Moriarty. The new Monsterverse movie for the actor, who in the ’90s starred in In the Mouth of Madness, a cult horror film written by none other than Warner Bros chief Michael De Luca, with John Carpenter directing.
