(NewsNation) — Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, 95, and his 63-year-old wife, Betsy Arakawa, tested negative for carbon monoxide poisoning and showed no external trauma, preliminary investigation results show.
Hackman’s pacemaker data revealed the actor’s last event was on Feb. 17, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said Friday, adding that it is a “very good assumption” Hackman was deceased for at least 10 days.
Hackman, Arakawa and their dog were all found dead at their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home on Wednesday.
Authorities believe they may have been dead for some time; the cause of death has yet to be revealed. Toxicology and autopsy reports are pending, Mendoza said.
Officials collected the following for “evidentiary” purposes:
- Two green cellphones
- Two bottles of medication
- One bottle of OTC Tylenol
- Medical records
- 2025 monthly planner calendar
Authorities reiterated Friday that there was no foul play suspected in the couple’s deaths, though an earlier search warrant stated that the situation was “suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation.”
Hackman’s body was found in the home’s entryway, and Arakawa was dead next to a space heater in a bathroom. Pills were scattered next to an open prescription bottle on the bathroom counter, according to a search warrant, The Associated Press reports.
Results of autopsies conducted on both bodies were not available Friday, according to authorities.
Their German Shepherd was also found dead in the bathroom closet. Two other dogs were alive on the property.
