A gas leak in Riverside County has prompted mandatory evacuations, authorities announced Thursday.
Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly what caused the rupture, but officials first notified the public about the leak, in 1300 block of State Street in San Jacinto, at around 11:30 a.m.
In a 6:30 p.m. update, officials said evacuations orders remained in place for:
- North of Crows Nest
- South of the canal
- West of Buena Vista
- East of Palm
Additionally, evacuation orders downgraded to warnings included:
- South of Tenth
- West of Santa Fe
- East of Buena Vista
- North of Fruitvale
- South of Crows Nest
In a post to X, formerly Twitter just after 3:30 p.m., the Riverside County Fire Department said that SoCalGas was on the scene and “working to mitigate the leak.”
For residents in the San Jacinto Area impacted by the gas leak, a care and reception center that was previously at Tahquitz High School has been moved to Hemet High School, located at 41701 Stetson Avenue, officials said in
Animal services have been made available at 6851 Van Buren Blvd. in Jurupa Valley.
“SoCalGas continues to work on mitigating the gas leak involving a high-pressure pipe. Crews will remain on scene until the hazard is contained,” officials said in a 9:30 p.m. update on social media.
The Riverside County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments, along with the Hemet Police Department, are in unified command, officials said.
