Communities throughout Los Angeles County will observe Juneteenth, the federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans, with a range of events centered on culture, education, and celebration.
Here are highlights of events taking place across the region:
- California African American Museum – Hosts “Repossessions,” a group art exhibition on reparations, with artist talks and a panel discussion featuring representatives from Reparations4Slavery and The Reparations Project. Free with RSVP.
- The Autry Museum presents “Rodeo Rising: Celebrating Black Women Athletes” as part of its Thursday After Hours series, featuring panels and the exhibition “Black Cowboys: An American Story.”
- Juneteenth Freedom Day Ride – A community bicycle ride through historic African American sites in central L.A. Begins at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza at 8 a.m.
- Manhattan Beach – A Juneteenth ceremony at Bruce’s Beach Park on June 19, followed by a celebration and concert on June 22 at Polliwog Park.
- Rooftop Cinema Club – Screening “Love Jones” and “Love & Basketball” at LEVEL DTLA on June 19.
- Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre – Hosts the Juneteenth Improv Extravaganza, featuring four teams of all-Black improvisers.
- Pies for Justice – Citywide charity pie sale, with proceeds benefiting Peace 4 Kids and ACLU SoCal. Featured items include Peaches & Cream Pie at Redbird and Cookies & Cream Gelato Pie at Pizzeria Mozza.
- Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen – Hosts Jammin’ On Juneteenth, a 21+ evening cookout with live music, food and drinks.
- Black in Mayberry – Freedom Exhibition and Celebration runs June 19–28 in Venice and El Segundo with music, art, and family programming.
- The Los Angeles County African American Employees Association will host a Juneteenth Celebration and bell-ringing ceremony at the Korean Bell of Friendship on June 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free with RSVP on Eventbrite.
- National Park Service – Offers free entrance to all U.S. national parks on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.
- Aquarium of the Pacific – Juneteenth celebration includes storytelling and music. Event is included with general admission and will be live-streamed.
- LA County Library – Hosting Juneteenth-themed storytimes, cooking classes and resources, including the virtual event Sanguine Hues: Juneteenth Cuisine on Display.
- Juneteenth Rooftop Party – Presented by Plus+One and &Things at Harbor House, Downtown LA. Event runs from 3–10 p.m.
- Black Professionals Network Mixer – 21+ networking event at Offhand Wine Bar in Santa Monica featuring guest speaker Eric Jones.
- Black Rocks LA – Rock climbing celebration with music, food, and vendors at Hollywood Boulders, June 19 from 6–9 p.m
- LA County Parks are hosting free Juneteenth events at parks across the region on June 21, including sports, music, food tastings and youth activities.
