Friday Night Lights fans may be looking forward to the upcoming reboot, but an iconic character from the original series won’t be joining the show as a regular.
Taylor Kitsch, 44, who revealed in January he had been approached about taking part in the new story, has decided to decline the offer.
‘I’m not going back,’ he told The Wrap at the premiere of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf on Monday in New York City.
Kitsch portrayed fullback Tim Riggins in the series focused on Texas high school football.
The show was based on the 1990 non-fiction book and 2004 film of the same name.
In an interview with Access Hollywood on the same red carpet, Kitsch said he hadn’t spoken to star Kyle Chandler, who played coach Eric Taylor in the Emmy winning series for five seasons.

However, the action star didn’t rule out returning to the Peacock reboot altogether.
‘I’ll do a cameo, he said. ‘I would do one, it’s got to be out of control though,’ he said.
‘Timmy Rigs NOOOOO,’ exclaimed one fan after learning about Kitsch’s decision to take a knee.
‘I love him:)’ wrote another.
Kitsch is currently focusing on the debut of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. He and Chris Pratt reprise their roles from the 2022’s Terminal List in the upcoming action packed thriller.
This next chapter is actually a prequel to the revenge driven thriller in which Pratt’s James Reece hunts down those responsible for the murders of his SEAL team and his family, including Kitsch’s Ben Edwards.
The series which debuts on Prime begins seven year prior to the deadly conspiracy that was the impetus for season one.
‘You get to see Reece and Ben before it all starting tweaking Reece out,’ the Lone Survivor star said.
‘So I love that part and it’s more of an origin story of Ben Edwards.’
The first three episodes of Dark Wolf will debut August 24, with a new episode appearing each Wednesday through September 24.

Kitsch, who has spent a lot of time with former military members during his career has been working on a way to give back, especially to those veterans who struggle with substance abuse.
He has established Howler’s Ridge, a facility on a 22 acre piece of property in Bozeman, MT.
‘It’s for veterans and people on the silver side of addiction,’ he told The Wrap. ‘Addiction runs through my family, the American Primeval actor explained, ‘It’s in my life on so many levels.’
He chose to serve military members because ‘the veteran community, the SEAL community and the veteran families have affected my life for the better.’
The Only the Brave star said treatment at the non-profit facility was not one-size-fits-all. ‘We’re going to create an environment for change, inner-work, and every different person up there, it’s not just broad stroking… it’s really individualizing their needs.’
