A Fountain Valley Police officer shot and killed an allegedly armed man Friday morning.
The shooting occurred shortly after 11 a.m. in the 1700 block of San Mateo Street, where officers had been called to investigate a report of a suspicious man trying to open the door of an occupied car, police said.
When officers arrived, the man fled, then pointed a handgun at an officer, prompting that officer to open fire, police said.
The man was declared dead at the scene, and an investigation into the shooting, the man’s identity and his motive is ongoing.
