Guard Jasper Floyd is the latest player who played under Ross Hodge at North Texas to follow the head coach to West Virginia.
On Tuesday afternoon, Floyd announced his commitment to the WVU men’s basketball program on Instagram with the caption “Proof of HIS promise”.
Floyd was the third-leading scorer for the Mean Green this past season, averaging 9.0 points per game. He scored in double figures 12 times, with the bulk of those contests coming late in the year.
Floyd averaged 13.2 points per game over UNT’s final seven games of the season, scoring 10 or more points all but once, including 19 points in his team’s NIT opener versus Furman.
He also averaged 3.9 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in his only season in Denton.
WVU will be Floyd’s fifth stop in his collegiate career. He started at Northwest Florida State College. He played in 29 games and helped lead the program to the 2022 NJCAA DI National Championship game. Floyd then moved to Hillsborough College, where he averaged 14.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.
Floyd transferred to Fairfield for the 2023-24 season. There, he started 35 of 37 games and averaged 9.5 ppg, 5.9 RPG, 4.1 apg, and 2.3 steals per game. He was one of just two players in the country to average at least 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He also set the program’s single-season record with 87 steals.
Floyd, a 6-foot-3-inch guard, comes to WVU with one year of eligibility remaining. He is the fifth player to commit to West Virginia via the transfer portal.
