A longtime Major League Baseball star and former Los Angeles Dodger is facing felony charges in South Florida, authorities confirmed.
Rafael Furcal, 47, was arrested Wednesday and is facing charges of felony assault and throwing a missile into a public or private dwelling or vehicle, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident, Fox News reports, stems from an apparent road rage outburst in which Furcal threw rocks at a victim’s truck while he was inside.
In Florida law, a “missile” refers to an object that can produce a great deal of bodily harm when thrown, like a rock.
Furcal played 14 years in the majors, including six with the Dodgers from 2006 to 2011. A native of the Dominican Republic, he was a three-time All-Star and World Series champion in 2011 with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The former shortstop is perhaps best known for his six seasons with the Atlanta Braves. Furcal was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2000.
