A former mayor of College Park agreed to be disbarred after he was sentenced to 30 years in prison upon pleading guilty to 140 counts of child pornography in 2023.
Patrick Wojahn, 49, was once a popular progressive politician who became mayor of College Park in 2015. He served until March 2023, when he abruptly resigned on the eve of his arrest — citing an ongoing police investigation.
He was indicted on 40 misdemeanor counts of possession of child pornography and 40 felony counts of intent to distribute child pornography. In August 2023, Wojahn pleaded guilty to 140 child pornography charges in Prince George’s County Circuit Court and was sentenced to 150 years in prison with all but 30 suspended.
On Friday, Maryland Chief Justice Matthew Fader granted a joint petition for disbarment for Wojahn, stating that the latter had agreed that he’d violated professional conduct laws.
Wojahn gained attention of law enforcement when police said the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children flagged a social media account, “skippy_md,” for having uploaded child pornography to the messaging app Kik in January 2023.
Detectives subpoenaed Yahoo for the email account used to create the Kik account, which returned as Wojahn’s government email address. Wojahn waived his Miranda rights and told investigators that the Kik account was his, according to court documents.
Eleven days after receiving the notification, police searched Wojahn’s home and recovered numerous electronic devices. Wojahn told detectives he owned the “skippy_md” account in an interview during the search and advised police “that he has viewed and possessed files depicting child pornography,” according to court papers.
Tapping into a network of child abuse investigators from around the world, detectives and prosecutors were able to identify 52 of the children who were exploited in the content Wojahn possessed, and several victims provided impact statements that prosecutors read aloud in Wojahn’s court hearings.
