As the Israel-Hamas War wages on, automobile manufacturer Ford’s X account turned heads Monday afternoon with three posts that were sympathetic to Palestine. The since-deleted posts, made in the span of four minutes, read, “Free Palestine,” “Israel is a terrorist state,” and “ALL EYES ON GAZA.” In a statement, Ford later said that its account had been “briefly compromised,” and the posts “were not authorized or posted by Ford,” nor did they “represent the views of the Ford Motor Company.” The auto manufacturer added that it was looking into the origin of the posts. Cybersecurity expert David Derigiotis, president of brokerage at Flow Specialty, speculated to CBS News: “There are a few different ways that accounts typically get compromised. It could be employees being targeted, of the company itself. It could be the social media manager or individuals who handle marketing and all social media relations for Ford, they could have been targeted. Or it could be somebody on the X side as well. Whatever employees at the organization, if they were targeted, attackers find their way in through various path points.” Several outlets have reported that Ford has supplied the Israeli military with a type of armored vehicle called the SandCat Tigris 4×4.
