Parts of the San Fernando are already being rattled by thunder and hit with rain and hail as a storm system moving over the mountains spills into the valley, the National Weather Service reported.
With a flash flood warning issued for Los Angeles County until 6 p.m., forecasters said the primary hazards will be potential hail, lightning and heavy downpours in some areas.
“There is a small chance for rainfall rates to exceed [half an inch per hour] with stronger shower/storms,” NWS added.
Residents in Granada Hills saw heavy rain at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, as well as thunder and lightning.
Weather officials said residents would likely be impacted by the passing storm system between 12 p.m. through 9 p.m. where there is a potential for a wet afternoon commute, though a low risk of minor flooding and debris flows in some areas.
Coastal areas in L.A. County are expected to remain dry Thursday, with the valley regions seeing the same dry weather Friday, along with a warming trend through late next week.
“Well above normal temperatures are very likely next Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the 90s expected across the valleys,” NWS said.
