STANTON — Firefighters responding to a request for medical assistance Saturday night noticed smoke inside the patient’s Stanton home, kicked down the door and rescued a woman.
They arrived at the home shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday but no one answered when they knocked on the door, so they walked around the house looking for access, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Thanh Nguyen told City News Service. They detected smoke and discovered a fire.
The firefighters were in their uniforms, not their fire suits, and rushed to put them on and get in, he said.
Once inside, they found an unresponsive woman on a sofa and carried her outside, Nguyen said. She was alone in the home.
Paramedics provided aid and by the time the ambulance arrived at the hospital, she was conscious, he said. Her condition was unavailable.
The call for medical aide did not come from the patient herself, but from someone concerned about her, Nguyen said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
