(NewsNation) — A federal probe into mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey and New York continues to produce a lack of substantial answers, angering lawmakers and residents alike.
The FBI has concluded the drones do not belong to the U.S. military and that foreign governments are not behind the objects. Drones have been spotted on the East Coast and Southern California.
But just because government agencies are not offering answers doesn’t mean they don’t have information about who could be behind the drone sightings, NewsNation special correspondent Ross Coulthart said.
NewsNation’s Ross Coulthart will examine the perplexing case of the mysterious drones seen all over New Jersey in an hour-long special program on NewsNation at 9 p.m. ET on Dec. 14. Not sure how to find NewsNation on your TV? Visit JoinNN.com.
“If it’s Russia or China, we have a very serious problem,” Coulthart said.
Based on the FBI’s conclusions, Coulthart said the list of who could be behind the mysterious objects is short. He said it could be a dissident, rogue group within the government or a private contractor that is “doing the wrong thing.”
On Thursday, John Kirby, White House national security spokesman, claimed that New Jersey residents have misidentified manned aircraft for the drones. However, because of the size of the objects residents have seen, those making the reports of the sightings continue to defend their opinions, Coulthart said.
“They want answers, and they don’t like being gaslit by the White House,” he added.
In addition to New Jersey, New York and California, drones have been sighted over two Royal Air Force bases in England as well as Australia, China, Russia, and in parts of Europe, Coulthart said. Yet, Coulthart insists U.S. officials know more than they are letting on.
“Unfortunately, the government here cannot give us answers,” he said. “They seem to be unable to provide a simple explanation to what these objects are. And people are starting to get concerned.”
