LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – As a severe thunderstorm and strong winds pounded Los Angeles Thursday, a group of photojournalists getting footage of the rains found themselves scrambling for safety as a deluge of water and mud rushed down an Altadena Street.
The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. in the area Rubio Vista Road and Pleasantridge Drive, video obtained by KTLA shows.
Camera crews are seen parked at curb of the sloping roadway near several public works trucks, some of them, including a KTLA photographer, standing outside their vehicles with umbrellas, attempting to set up a shot when, in an instant, water and mud began pouring down the street.
One of the photojournalists is seen quickly throwing the umbrella into the back of his vehicle and running back to dismantle his camera and get it to safety before the rushing waters moved from the edge of the roadway to completely covering it.
Another camera man quickly turns his vehicle around, giving a better view of the devastation of the Eaton Fire burn scar, which was under a flash flood warning, and proceeds to navigate the muddy waters and debris moving on either side of his car.
In the Rubio Highlands neighborhood, an L.A. County deputy sheriff has stopped his patrol cruiser at an intersection flooded with a torrent of water.
Out of harm’s way, footage captured near Rubio Canyon Road and Rubio Crest Drive shows a debris basin where dangerously fast running currents of water send tree limbs and other debris downstream.
