COLLEGE PARK, Md. (DC News Now) — There is lots of excitement in College Park for March Madness this year, as the Terps men’s and women’s basketball teams are in the NCAA tournament.
Nick Donnelly from RJ Bentley’s Bar says March Madness is a big deal for his business and many others in College Park because fans and customers always support Maryland’s basketball when they make the tournament.
“It is a great experience and is exciting, and lots of parents and alumni come, and the students will come out and have a good time at the bar,” Donnelly said.

A few doors down at Ledo Pizza, they are also expecting larger crowds when the Terps take the court. Server Gabby Wenham says March Madness is always fun for Maryland fans.
“We love to have all the fans come out and watch our TVs and eat, and many times former players will come, and it is a great atmosphere here, and it is fun to work,” Wenham said.
The Terps put together one of their best seasons, earning a No. 4 seed.
This is the highest seeding since the Terps were a No. 4 seed in 2015. However, this season has had its fair share of challenges for the Terps ladies’ team.
Maryland will host the first two rounds of the tournament in College Park.
This is the 15th straight trip to the NCAA tournament for Maryland under head coach Brenda Frese. Maryland Fan and student Diego Diaz-Cooper says he can’t wait to see both teams in action.
“It just means nothing but good things economically and for this community, March Madness is great and brings people together, and it is great for college basketball, so this is great for the community.”
Maryland women’s basketball will face No. 13 seed Norfolk State on Saturday at the Xfinity Center in College Park. The men will go on the road and play Friday in Seattle against No. 13 seed Grand Canyon.
