LEESBURG, Va. (DC News Now) — Chris Moon arrived at the Leesburg Executive Airport late Sunday afternoon after a roundtrip flight to Albany, N.Y., to honor a friend.
The pilot brought back the ashes of the dog who died in the Nov. 24 plane crash near Albany that killed Seuk Kim, 49, of Springfield, Va.
“Thank you so much for all your effort. Thank you, sir,” said Sajin Kim, Seuk’s brother. “Our family is very grateful to have all the friends and family and everybody supporting us.”
Seuk was flying to upstate New York to take three dogs to a no-kill shelter when the plane crashed. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash. Two of the dogs survived.
He had been part of a group of pilots who flew pets rescued from natural disasters to new homes.
Moon is another of those pilots. He felt he had no choice but to make Sunday’s flight.
“We needed those remains to be brought down here before the memorial, and they weren’t going to ship them, and that involves a little bit of hope that they’re actually going to make it on time,” said Moon.
The two dogs that survived the crash will be brought back to Virginia once they have recovered from their injuries and will be adopted by a friend of Seuks, according to his family.
Seuk’s funeral will take place on Thursday. The family is still working out the details.
