A man who allegedly set a vehicle on fire following a family dispute is in stable condition after being shot by deputies in Riverside County Wednesday.
The incident was reported on the 32200 block of Cask Lane in Temecula just before 6 p.m.
A caller told dispatch that an unwelcomed family member had broken into his home while his wife and son were inside.
The suspect eventually left the home but began acting erratically in the parking lot and refused to leave, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department stated.
As deputies were en route, the Sheriff’s Department received reports that the suspect had begun breaking the windows of a vehicle and setting it on fire.
The unidentified man was found sitting inside the burning car and refused to comply with multiple commands from deputies to exit the vehicle, officials said.
“The suspect produced a metal object and threw it at the deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
No deputies were injured in the incident.
Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Riverside County District Attorney Investigator Ivan Ostarcevic or Riverside Sheriff’s Master Investigator David Sandoval at 951-955-2777.
