Amazon is finding more faith.
The company, via Amazon MGM Studios, has handed a cast-contingent series order to drama It’s Not Like That from The Wonder Project, the nascent indie studio launched by Jon Erwin and Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten last year.
It is the latest series order for the studio, which caters to faith audiences, after scoring a series order for House of David earlier this year.
It’s Not Like That follows Lori, who is freshly divorced with two teens. Malcolm’s a minister and recently widowed dad of three. Their families once did everything together, but now Lori and Malcolm must navigate their newly minted singledom, parenthood and the complexities of Malcolm being a modern-day minister. Is this the beginning of a love story? It’s not like that. Or is it?
The series comes from Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rob, who created the series and serve as showrunners. The pair are already in business with the streamer as co-exec producers on Off Campus and were co-exec producers on As We See It. Outside of the tech giant, they also served as co-exec producers on NBC’s Ordinary Joe and Fox’s Almost Family. They got their start on NBC’s Parenthood.
The pair will exec produce alongside Jon Erwin, Justin Rosenblatt, Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten for The Wonder Project, Alex Goldstone for 42 & Anonymous Content and Kingdom Story Company. They are repped by Verve, 42 and McKuin, Frankel & Whitehead.
