WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — For a second day in a row, several school districts across Northern Virginia and Maryland have adjusted their schedules due to below-freezing temperatures, and icy road conditions.
On Jan. 22, temperatures across the region continued in the low teens with wind chills dropping into the negatives. This comes as an arctic cold continues to hit the DMV.
Virginia
Here is a list of schools opening two hours late on Wednesday:
- Alexandria City Public Schools
- Arlington County Public Schools
- Fairfax County Public Schools – Central offices will open at 10 a.m. and all morning field trips are canceled.
- Loudoun County Public Schools
- Fauquier County Public Schools
- Shenandoah County Public Schools
Schools Closed
- Frederick County Public Schools – All afternoon activities, practices, and events were canceled. Officials said all school offices and central offices will open at noon.
- Clarke County Public Schools – All offices will open at 9 a.m.
- Warren County Public Schools
Maryland
Here is a list of schools opening two hours late on Wednesday.
- Prince George’s County Public Schools
- Montgomery County Public Schools – The school division announced that all schools will operate under two-hour delays on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and Thursday, Jan. 23. All field trips, activities and programs that begin at 10:30 a.m. are canceled. All services after 10 a.m. will continue as scheduled.
- Howard County Public Schools – School bus pickup times will be pushed back by two hours. All high schools that were originally scheduled for early dismissal will start two hours late instead.
- Carroll County Public Schools
- Allegany County Public Schools – All schools are closed; however, virtual synchronous learning will take place for students. Login hours will start at 8:30 a.m. for elementary students, and at 8 a.m. for middle and high school students.
- Baltimore County Public Schools – There will be no morning classes for Pre-Kindergarten, and School offices will open on time.
