WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Loudoun United FC will get their season underway this weekend, as they will hit the road to take on Birmingham Legion FC Saturday night.
LUFC is coming off of their best season since they debuted in the United Soccer league in 2019. Last year, Loudoun finished with 11 wins, 14 losses, and 9 draws and were just six points shy of making their first postseason appearance in club history. “We made a big step forward”, midfielder Florian Valot said.
“We want to continue improving and this time make the playoffs and have a run. Of course, we thrive for championships. We want to win games. We want to win titles, and I think where we are right now is pretty exciting and we are excited the get started this weekend.”
Building on the success they found last year will be extremely important. “We have three games on the road (to start the year), and we want to start off fast, head coach Ryan Martin said.
“We want to make sure we can get as many points as possible to kick our home opener off against Rhode Island, who are the defending Eastern Conference champions.”
Loudoun will kick off their season Saturday at 8pm on the road versus Birmingham Legion FC. LUFC’s first home game is Saturday, March 29th versus Rhode Island FC at 4pm over at Segra Field.
