PARTS of Britain are set to be blasted with winds up to 60mph and “heavy” rain this weekend.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind from 9am onwards on Sunday for multiple regions in both England and Wales.
The forecaster issued the warning for regions across the South West and Wales as strong wind gusts are expected.
It said that winds will strengthen from west to east during Sunday, with gusts of 50-55 mph likely in places, especially near coasts and over/to the west of high ground.
It also warned that the most exposed areas could see wind speeds in excess of 60mph.
This will be accompanied by outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, which could lead to some surface water and spray.
Through Sunday evening and night, winds will gradually ease across Wales and parts of the South West.
However, it may remain fairly windy along some parts of southern and southwestern coasts in England during Sunday night.
The forecaster said the best way to avoid delays is by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
It also recommended preparing in advance in case of power cuts.
Gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items can help to limit the damage.
If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves.
Even from the shore, large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea.
Take care if walking near cliffs, know your route and keep dogs on a lead.
In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly.
The Met Office also warned that it is likely some coastal routes, sea fronts, and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.
It also expects some likely delays to road, rail, air, and ferry transport.
There may also be some short term loss of power and of other services.
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely.
