REISTERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — With Election Day just a week away, Maryland’s nominees for the U.S. Senate are mobilizing their voters.
It’s called a GOTV (Get Out the Vote) operation and Democrat Angela Alsobrooks and Republican Larry Hogan are on it.
Turnout at the polls has been brisk. State election administrator Jared DeMarinis said on the first day alone of early voting for the Nov. 5 general election, more ballots were cast on that single day versus during the entire early voting window in this year’s May primary.
To kick off this last full week of campaigning, Alsobrooks led a GOTV drive in Baltimore County.
“Marylanders are coming out in very large numbers,” Alsobrooks said. “It’s exciting and I think we’re really going to make a large statement about the direction of our country.”
GOP nominee Hogan kicked off his week of campaigning by meeting voters in Anne Arundel County.
“It’s a very close race and we’re just going all across the state trying to convince every single undecided voter out there,” Hogan said.
Alsobrooks is encouraged by citizen engagement in this election.
“It’s important for all of us to participate,” she said. “But do you know what? I’m feeling really good about the turnout. The enthusiasm is very high, I think Marylanders are really engaged in this election.”
Hogan shares a focused message as he meets voters at the fall community festival in Davidsonville.
“I just want to encourage everybody to make sure they get out and vote,” he said. “Every vote is going to count.”
