The Ink Factory has wrapped production on a Chinese-language adaptation of its popular series The Night Manager in co-production with 127 Wall Productions.

Shot in Hong Kong, Macau, Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, and Phuket, the series reimagines John le Carré’s original novel as a spy thriller set across Asia. The series will premiere on Youku in mainland China in late 2026, with Fifth Season on board to handle global sales. The series is produced in association with Character 7 and Demarest Films.

The adaptation is directed by Kelvin KinLong Chan (Hand Rolled Cigarette). The series is written by Cheung Feifan (Cold War 1994) and He Liangyu (A Man and A Woman). Eddie Peng (Black Dog) and Sean Lau (Papa) lead the cast alongside Isabella Leong and Carman Lee.

Donghui Wang leads the executive producing team, along with producer Julia Song and executive producer Chris Cornwell. Joe Tsai and Arthur Wang executive produce for 127 Wall Productions, and Simon Cornwell, Stephen Cornwell, Michele Wolkoff, and Tessa Inkelaar for The Ink Factory.

Also executive producing are Clare Cornwell for the John le Carré estate, Susanne Bier, Stephen Garrett for Character 7, David Farr, and William B. Johnson for Demarest Films.

The series synopsis reads: Jonathan Chan (Peng), the polished night manager of Bangkok’s Emerald Palace Hotel, hides a dark past rooted in Hong Kong’s White Rock Detention Center, where betrayal and loss shaped the man he has become. When evidence linking tycoon Richard Kwok (Lau) to illegal arms trading surfaces, Jonathan is recruited by ICAC’s relentless Angela Fok (Lee) to infiltrate Kwok’s empire.

As he gains Kwok’s trust, Jonathan finds himself entangled with Jed Cheung (Leong), Kwok’s girlfriend, whose growing connection to him complicates his mission. Caught in a dangerous web of deception, morality, and revenge, Jonathan must confront his past and decide how far he’s willing to go before losing himself entirely.
