A spring warming trend could break some afternoon records around Southern California on Monday.
“We’re really talking about temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above normal,” KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins said.
The National Weather Service (NWS) says afternoon highs are expected to be in the 90s across the warmest valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
“Some of the areas that are basically going to be on alert include Woodland Hills, Ojai and Palmdale,” Kirk said. “Watch out for temperatures there to be near or above record-breaking temperatures.”
Woodland Hills is forecast to reach 95 degrees Monday, which would break its current March 24 record of 89.
The rising temperatures have health officials concerned about heat-related illnesses, especially for kids and older adults.
Recommended actions include staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, taking frequent breaks and possibly avoiding outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. altogether.
The above-average temperatures should continue through Tuesday before returning to normal for the rest of the week.
