Former Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, attorney Douglas Emhoff, will return to his alma mater this summer as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law at the USC Gould School of Law, the university announced Monday.

Emhoff, who earned his JD from USC Gould in 1990, will begin his faculty role on July 1.

“It is great to be back home in Los Angeles, and I am excited and honored to return to USC Gould, where my legal journey began,” Emhoff said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing to share my experiences with the next generation and hearing from them in the vibrant academic community at USC.”

Emhoff previously taught at Georgetown University Law Center during his time in Washington, D.C. Emhoff has mentored students, participated in mock interviews and professional development events, and supported recent graduates.

“As a lawyer, I’ve always believed in speaking out on behalf of the vulnerable, defending fundamental rights, and fighting for justice,” Emhoff said. “I’m excited to instill these values in the next generation of legal professionals.”

The decision comes as Harris weighs running for California governor, a decision she isn’t expected to make until the end of summer.
