Police officers responding to a reported domestic dispute in Fontana fatally shot a suspect who approached them with a firearm.
According to the Fontana Police Department, the call originated from an apartment building in the 9100 block of Dale Avenue; the time of the call was not disclosed, but authorities stated it came in on Sunday morning.
“Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact at the residence,” the Fontana Police Department said on social media. “As the door was opened, a suspect pointed a firearm at the officers, prompting an officer-involved shooting.”
Medical aid was rendered at the scene, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital; however, he died of his injuries there.
His name was not released.
Police confirmed in the social media post that a firearm was recovered from the scene.
The primary investigation is being handled by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, but Fontana police are also conducting their own internal administrative review.
No officers were injured in the incident.
