LA28 officials have unveiled an even more detailed look at the venues that will be used during the 2028 Olympics.

The announcement was made Tuesday morning after the plan was approved by the International Olympic Committee, the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, or LA28, stated in a media release.

Tuesday’s venue announcement included:

  • Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area: 3×3 basketball, modern pentathlon
  • Dodger Stadium: Baseball
  • Peacock Theater: Boxing (preliminaries; finals to be held at Crypto.com Arena)
  • Venice Beach: Road cycling, marathon, triathlon
  • USC Sports Center: Rhythmic gymnastics
  • Universal Studios lot: Squash

It won’t just be the City of Angels that hosts world-class athletes in Summer 2028; several other locations across SoCal will also play host to a number of events:

  • Long Beach: Beach volleyball (Alamitos Beach); coastal rowing (Long Beach Waterfront); target shooting, sport climbing (Long Beach Convention Center)
  • Carson: Archery (Stadium of Carson)
  • Anaheim: Volleyball (Honda Center)
  • Arcadia: Equestrian (Santa Anita Park)
  • Pomona: Cricket T20 (Pomona Fairplex)
  • San Clemente: Surfing (Trestles Beach)
  • South El Monte: Shotgun shooting

Olympic officials and their Los Angeles counterparts expressed delight that the 2028 Games will bring a positive impact to not just L.A., but many other surrounding communities.

Los Angeles Olympics: Can you get tickets yet?

“Los Angeles is the epicenter of sports, culture and entertainment, and every venue selected for the 2028 Games will provide athletes and fans the best possible experience,” LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said. “The 2028 Olympic venue plan invites communities from across the region to celebrate the Games coming to their backyard with the most exciting sports staged at some of the world’s top-tier existing stadiums and arenas, famous beaches and purpose-built temporary structures.”

“These venues will showcase the best of our city to a global audience,” added L.A. Mayor Karen Bass. “This plan brings the Games to all corners of our city like never before…our world-famous neighborhoods as well as our hidden gems will be on full display for all to experience and enjoy.”

Venues for multiple other sports have already been announced, including BMO Stadium (which will be known as Exposition Park Stadium during the Olympics due to the Games’ policy on stadium sponsorships), the Rose Bowl, the L.A. Coliseum, Intuit Dome and its neighbor SoFi Stadium.

‘Never say never’: Simone Biles won’t rule out 2028 Olympics

Santa Monica, known as the birthplace of beach volleyball, will not host the sport despite nearly two years of negotiations between city officials and LA28. Meanwhile, the softball and canoe slalom events will take place more than 1,000 miles away from Southern California in Oklahoma City.

Those two events will use pre-existing facilities in Oklahoma; Olympic officials cited the small capacity of L.A.’s largest softball stadium (2,000 people) and the lack of an Olympic-level canoe slalom venue on the West Coast as reasons for the move to the Sooner State.

There will be five sports at the 2028 Games that didn’t feature in 2024: flag football, baseball/softball, cricket, lacrosse and squash.

When 2028 rolls around, L.A. will become just the third city in world history to host the Summer Olympics three times. The other two are London (1908, 1948, 2012) and Paris (1900, 1924, 2024).
