The Democratic National Committee launched a billboard campaign on Monday calling former President Trump “chicken” for not agreeing to a second debate with Vice President Harris on CNN.
The mobile billboard, which features Trump’s face on a chicken, will be deployed outside of his rally in Indiana, Pa. on Monday. Separate billboards will be set up across the city, according to the DNC.
“It wasn’t so long ago that Donald Trump boasted he’d debate ‘anytime, anywhere,’ but after Vice President Kamala Harris held him to account for his failures as president and dangerous second term agenda in their first debate, it’s no surprise Trump’s turned chicken – too scared to face the music again,” said Abhi Rahman, deputy communications director at the DNC.
The effort comes after Harris formally accepted an invite on Saturday from CNN for a second debate against Trump.
“Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate. It is the same format and setup as the CNN debate he attended and said he won in June, when he praised CNN’s moderators, rules, and ratings,” said Harris’s campaign co-chair Jen O’Malley Dillon.
Trump responded later on Saturday saying he would not debate Harris for a second time.
“She’s done one debate. I’ve done two. It’s too late to do another. I’d love to, in many ways, but it’s too late. The voting is cast,” Trump said during a campaign event in Wilmington, N.C.
“She’s had her chance to do it with Fox,” Trump said. “You know, Fox invited us on, and I waited and waited, and they turned it down. They turned it down, but now she wants to do a debate right before the election with CNN because she’s losing badly.”
