WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Here are our rankings for the top 25 high school football teams in Washington, D.C., Maryland and northern Virginia. List comprised by the DC News Now sports department. Updated as of Thursday at 12 p.m.
1. Madison (3-0) – Last week: 1
Madison remains at No. 1 after another dominant 37-7 win over Robinson.
2. Friendship Collegiate (3-0) – Last week: 2
Friendship has allowed only six points in three games. They will get another test this week, as they host Dunbar in our Game of the Week.
3. Quince Orchard (2-0) – Last week: 3
Head coach John Kelley and his Cougars are rolling. They start 2-0 after a blow out win over Gaithersburg.
4. Riverdale Baptist (3-0) – Last week: 14
We may have underestimated how good Riverdale Baptist would be this year. The Crusaders put themselves on the map this past week, defeating Good Counsel 28-18.
5. DeMatha (1-1) – Last week: 5
DeMatha enjoyed the bye week and remain in our top five.
6. St. John’s (2-1) – Last week: 6
The Cadets take care of business Saturday against Archbishop Carroll. They get a bye this week, as they will take on Friendship on Sept. 28.
7. Gonzaga (3-0) – Last week: 8
Gonzaga is 3-0, with all three wins coming from teams out of the area. The Eagles will look to produce an outcome similar to St. John’s when they host Archbishop Carroll.
8. Hayfield (2-0) – Last week: 7
The Hawks have not been tested in their first two games under new head coach Darryl Overton. 113 points scored, with only seven points conceded.
9. Northwest (2-0) – Last week: 12
Northwest blanks a solid Damascus team 28-0, and with that, jump into our top ten.
10. Battlefield (3-0) – Last week: 9
Don’t let the weak schedule make you believe that Battlefield isn’t a legit contender in Virginia. The Bobcats are 3-0, allowing just eight points.
11. Good Counsel (1-2) – Last week: 4
Good Counsel drops out of our top ten for the first time ever after their 28-18 loss at home to Riverdale Baptist. The Falcons will have a say as to where they end up in the rankings once the WCAC schedule begins.
12. Wise (1-1) – Last week: 11
Wise responds to their gut-wrenching loss to Maury, defeating Eleanor Roosevelt 14-0.
13. C.H. Flowers (1-1) – Last week: 10
After losing to No. 2 Friendship, Flowers picked up their first win of the season, but in a closer game than expected, defeating Oxon Hill 24-19.
14. Dunbar (3-0) – Last week: 15
Dunbar is 3-0 after putting up 52 on Landon. The Crimson Tide get their biggest test of the year Friday, when they travel to take on No. Friendship in our Game of the Week.
15. Patriot (2-0) – Last week: 18
Patriot is looking like the Pioneer team we saw average over 40 points in 2022. 99 points in two games, and they will look to continue the high scoring Friday on the road against Colonial Forge.
16. Linganore (2-0) – Last week: 19
Linganore starts the season 2-0, with two dominant wins over Wicomico and South Carroll.
17. South County (2-1) – Last week: 20
After getting destroyed by No. 3 Quince Orchard, South County responded with a 43-25 win over West Springfield.
18. Washington-Liberty (3-0) – Last week: 21
The Generals are 3-0 and continue to rise up our rankings. They get their rival Yorktown this Saturday in a battle of unbeatens.
19. Maret (1-0) – Last week: 22
Maret wins their first game of the season, dominating Ballou 42-6.
20. Middletown (2-0) – Last week: honorable mention
Middletown climbs into our rankings after defeating a solid Mergenthaler Vo-Tech team 28-6.
21. Theodore Roosevelt (2-0) – Lase week: unranked
The Roughriders jump into our rankings after dominating Bell in last week’s Game of the Week 46-6.
22. Westfield (2-1) – Last week: unranked
Westfield picks up a stunning 24-17 win over Lake Braddock, and with that, climb back into our rankings.
23. John Champe (3-0) – Last week: 25
John Champe continues to win. The Knights are 3-0 after defeating Loudoun Valley 28-14.
24. Lake Braddock (1-2) – Last week: 13
Lake Braddock falls eleven spots in our rankings after losing to Westfield 24-17 on the road.
25. Georgetown Prep (2-1) – Last week: honorable mention
Georgetown Prep cracks the top 25 after picking up a 30-6 win over Eastern.
