WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Here are our top 25 rankings of the best high school football teams in Washington, D.C., Maryland and northern Virginia. List comprised by DC News Now’s sports department. Records are as of Thursday afternoon.
1. Riverdale Baptist (8-0) – Last week: 1
Riverdale Baptist remains at No. 1 in our rankings after their bye week. They will travel to take on Friendship Collegiate in their regular season finale.
2. DeMatha (8-1) – Last week: 2
DeMatha dominates Bishop McNamara 37-0, winning their 8th straight. They get their bye week before WCAC playoffs begin.
3. Madison (9-0) – Last week: 3
The Warhawks are 9-0 after defeating their cross town rival Oakton 28-6.
4. Quince Orchard (9-0) – Last week: 4
Quince Orchard goes into playoffs undefeated after a 47-22 win over Sherwood. They will get a first round bye.
5. Wise (8-1) – Last week: 5
Wise dominates Northwestern 62-0 to finish their regular season 8-1, winning eight straight.
6. Battlefield (9-0) – Last week: 6
Battlefield improves to 9-0, defeating Osbourn 42-3. They take on their rival Patriot Friday.
7. Hayfield (8-1) – Last week: 7
Hayfield beat Justice 69-0 to improve to 8-1 on the season. They wrap up their regular season Friday against John Lewis.
8. Good Counsel (5-4) – Last week: 9
Good Counsel blanks Gonzaga 21-0. They wrap up their regular season Saturday vs. Bishop McNamara, with a win clinching the two-seed in the WCAC playoffs for the Falcons.
9. Paint Branch (8-1*) – Last week: 10
Paint Branch defeat a quality Bethesda-Chevy Chase opponent 23-10 to improve to 8-1 on the season.
10. St. John’s (5-3) – Last week: 11
St. John’s cracks the top ten after their bye week. They will host Gonzaga Saturday in what will likely decide the three-seed for the WCAC playoffs.
11. Linganore (9-0) – Last week: 12
Linganore rolls into playoffs 9-0 after a 49-14 win over Urbana.
12. Friendship Collegiate (7-2) – Last week: 13
Friendship shuts out KIPP 44-0. The Knights will host No. 1 Riverdale Baptist in our Game of the Week.
13. Gonzaga (6-3) – Last week: 8
The eagles dropped their third game of the year in a 21-0 shut out against Good Counsel.
14. Washington-Liberty (9-0) – Last week: 14
The Generals are 9-0 and are currently the top seed in the VHSL 6D Region after defeating Langley 28-14.
15. John Champe (9-0) – Last week: 15
John Champe improves to 9-0 after another comfortable victory over Broad Run 38-21.
16. Dunbar (8-1) – Last week: 16
Dunbar wins their fifth straight game, dominating H.D. Woodson 53-0.
17. C.H. Flowers (6-2) – Last week: 18
Flowers comes off a bye week, finishing the regular season 6-2.
18. Northwest (7-2) – Last week: 20
Northwest wraps up their regular season with a 42-0 win over Einstein. It’s the Jaguars’ 6th shut out on the season.
19. Westfield (7-2) – Last week: 21
Westfield improves to 7-2 after a 40-6 win over Chantilly.
20. Lake Braddock (7-2) – Last week: 22
Lake Braddock defeats South County 22-14 to pick up their 7th win on the season.
21. Georgetown Prep (6-2) – Last week: 23
Georgetown Prep defeats Episcopal 31-14. They will take on Bullis Saturday that will likely decide the IAC regular season champ.
22. Tuscarora (Va.) (8-1) – Last week: 25
Tuscarora wins their 7th straight, defeating a decent Woodgrove team 34-7. They wrap up the season on the road Friday vs. Broad Run.
23. Sherwood (7-2) – Last week: 17
Sherwood heads into playoffs on a losing streak, after dropping to No. 4 Quince Orchard in their regular season finale.
24. Oakdale (7-2) – Last week: 24
Oakdale dominates Tuscarora (Md.) 42-7. Their quest to return to the state championship begins this week vs. North Hagerstown.
25. Bullis (8-1) – Last week: Honorable Mention
Bullis cracks the top 25 after defeating Landon 27-7. They get Georgetown Prep Saturday at 5 p.m.
