A Southern California woman was arrested on Sunday after deputies found her boyfriend bleeding in the middle of a highway, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman as Lydia Alicia Gonzales, 40, of Buellton.
According to the sheriff’s office, it was at 1:58 a.m. when a deputy first came across the victim in the roadway of Highway 246 near Valley Station Road.
“As the deputy attempted to usher the subject from the roadway, he discovered that the man had several stab wounds and lacerations to the shoulder, hip, chest, back and hand,” the sheriff’s office explained in a press release.
The victim, whose identity was not immediately provided, told deputies that his girlfriend had stabbed him and that she was still inside a nearby home in the 200 block of Valley Station Road.
Then, as the deputies rendered aid to the victim and attempted to control his bleeding, Gonzales purportedly stepped outside of the nearby home and threw cans of beer at them.
The sheriff’s office said deputies quickly took Gonzales into custody and safely restrained her, despite that she was “being extremely combative.”
Gonzales was booked at the Northern Branch Jail for felonies such as attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence, and she is being held on $1,000,000 bail.
Officials said the victim was transported to an area hospital and was in stable condition as of Sunday afternoon.
