Dempsey Bryk Upped To Series Regular

EXCLUSIVE: Dempsey Bryk has been upped to series regular in the second season of We Were Liars, Amazon MGM Studios‘ thriller series based on the award-winning YA novel by E. Lockhart.

Bryk was introduced in Season 1 as Ebon, a rough-around-the-edges Boston guy who spends his summers among the blue-blooded elite, captaining a charter boat for senators and celebrities. After a heartbreaking loss in the last installment, he’s back on Martha’s Vineyard to make money, not to make friends. He’s got a fresh chip on his shoulder and absolutely no interest in being pulled into rich people’s sordid secrets — but it’s hard to avoid in these murky waters.

We Were Liars centers on Cadence Sinclair Eastman (Emily Alyn Lind), a privileged teenager who returns to her family’s private island each summer with a tight-knit group of friends known as “the Liars,” only to confront the truth about a mysterious accident that left her with amnesia. Hiding dark secrets, her family are introduced in Season 1 as American royalty — known for their good looks, old money, and enviable bond. But after the accident changes her life forever, everyone, including her beloved Liars, seems to have something to hide.

We Were Liars Season 1’s cast also included Shubham Maheshwari as Gat Patil, Esther McGregor as Mirren Sinclair Sheffield, Joseph Zada as Johnny Sinclair Dennis, Caitlin FitzGerald as Penny Sinclair, Mamie Gummer as Carrie Sinclair, Candice King as Bess Sinclair, Rahul Kohli as Ed Patil, and David Morse as Harris Sinclair.

Co-showrunners Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, Legacies) and Carina Adly MacKenzie (Roswell, New Mexico, The Originals) wrote and exec produced. Other EPs included Emily Cummins (The Endgame, Vampire Academy) for My So-Called Company, Brett Matthews (Legacies), Pascal Verschooris (The Vampire Diaries), and Lockhart. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amazon MGM Studios are behind the project. The novel is published by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books.

Upcoming, Bryk will be at SXSW with Crash Land, a darkly funny coming-of-age story marking his feature debut as writer and director. Produced through his Loser Films shingle, the film is about a group of small-town amateur stuntmen whose days revolve around drinking, antagonizing their community, and filming crude, Jackass-style stunts. Finn Wolfhard, Abby Quinn, Gabriel LaBelle, and Dempsey’s brother Billy Bryk star.

As an actor, Bryk is also known for work in projects like Willow, Going Dutch, and Ordinary Angels. He is repped by Canopy Media Partners, Buchwald, OAZ, and Bloch Law.
