A portion of Highway 330 headed to Big Bear in the San Bernardino Mountains was closed Friday morning due to mud and debris that pushed some vehicles off the road overnight.
“SR-330 closed from Live Oak to Highland Ave due to debris flow from #LineFire burn scar,” Caltrans District 8 posted on Facebook as a powerful storm hit the region Thursday night.
Live Oak Drive meets the 330 about two miles west of Running Springs as motorists travel up the 330 from Highland Avenue.
Running Springs received more than 5 inches of rain from this week’s storms, according to the National Weather Service.
The fast-moving water pushed several cars into a ravine, freelance media firm OnScene.TV reported.
”Some of the vehicles were pushed way down into the ravine and were buried pretty deep,” a Caltrans spokesperson at the scene told the stringer service. The motorists were eventually rescued from their vehicles, and no injuries were reported.
Caltrans said the closure was expected to remain in place for an unknown duration while crews make assessments.
