WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said the death of a D.C. DJ has been ruled a homicide.
On Oct. 27, 2024, at about 5 a.m., police responded to the report of a man who was found unconscious in the 500 block of T Street in Northwest D.C.
The man was transported to a hospital in D.C. with critical injuries and was then transferred to a hospital in Virginia. He died on Nov. 7, 2024.
The man was identified as Bryan Smith, 39, of Northwest D.C.
As MPD’s investigation developed, police obtained surveillance video and determined that Smith had been robbed before he was found on the sidewalk.
Investigators then found that the same suspects, shown in the video, were allegedly linked to three additional robberies in the District.
On Nov.14, 2024, police arrested and charged a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, from Northeast D.C., with three counts of Robbery and Assault with Intent to Commit Robbery.
On Feb. 13, the Northern Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Smith’s cause of death was blunt force trauma and ruled his manner of death a homicide.
Police said they are working with the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia to seek additional charges against the suspects who had been previously arrested in connection with the case.
