WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) reminds the community to plan ahead as the end of the DC Circulator approaches.
DDOT announced the plan to ultimately eliminate the Circulator, a popular bus system that travels throughout the District and into Arlington, Va., in July. Services for the system began phasing out in October.
After Dec. 31, DC Circulator service will no longer be available, and riders are encouraged to utilize alternative Metrobus routes through the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA).
Additional Metrobus service adjustments, which became effective this month, include:
Union Station-Congress Heights– A new Anacostia shuttle will operate to Stanton/Pomeroy Street every 30 minutes, filling the gap served by the Union Station-Congress Heights Circulator.
Woodley Park- McPherson– Additional service on Routes 52/54 along 14th Street accommodating customers between Colorado Ave and Metro Center.
Georgetown-Union Station- Routes 31 and 33 merged into a single route through H and I Streets Northwest, and extended to Union Station.
No changes were implemented at L’Enfant Plaza-Eastern Market, which is served by Metrobus routes 74, P6 and 90/92. In addition, no alternatives were implemented for a route along the National Mall, which was also covered by the Circulator.
DDOT said the service adjustments “aim to maintain seamless connections to key destinations and address potential crowding” and will remain in effect through July 2025, when the Better Bus Network redesign is launched.
