WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — An animal hospital in Washington, D.C., has announced that starting Tuesday, certain exam fees will be waived and extended payment options will be available for federal employees and contractors who have lost their jobs.
Since President Donald Trump took office last month, he has focused on significantly downsizing the federal government, as seen through the dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the deferred resignation program and mass firings at various agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Department of Health and Human Services.
As a result, the Friendship Hospital for Animals, located at 4105 Brandywine St. NW, said federal workers and contractors who have lost their jobs will be able to pay for animal care services using extended payment options and that emergency exam fees and non-routine primary care exam fees (sick visits) will be waived.
“To our federal government employee/contractor community, we understand more than most that accidents and emergencies have a way of happening at the worst possible time,” the clinic wrote, in part, in a post on social media. “Friendship Hospital is here to help care for your pets during these challenging times.”
The office did not specify how long the fees will be waived or how long extended payment options will be available.
