Dave Hughes got into an awkward on-air stoush with Jimmy Rees on Wednesday, after the comedian boasted about being awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia.
Hughes, 53, was chatting to Rees, 37, on 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed and Erin about receiving the OAM earlier this week in the King’s Birthday Honours.
The veteran radio host joked he was ‘very bitter’ about not receiving the award himself, when the conversation suddenly turned heated.
‘I think someone has to nominate you. How many million people are there in Australia, and not one person nominated you?’ Jimmy jokingly responded.
Dave then cheekily added Jimmy may have received a nomination due to his many endorsements deals, which included Woolworths and Hungry Jacks.

‘I think that’s a bit rich coming from you, a commercial radio station where you talk for three minutes and then have eight hours of ads,’ Jimmy retorted.
Co-host Ed Kavalee then began congratulating Rees over the award, prompting an annoying Hughes to respond with: ‘You’re just happy because he won it and I didn’t.’
Earlier this week, comedians Rees and Hamish Blake were among the 737 individuals recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Jimmy, who delighted children for over a decade as Jimmy Giggle on ABC’s flagship kids’ show Giggle and Hoot, shared his amazement on Instagram.
‘Never thought I this would be coming my way… you know the guy who talked to owls in his PJs and now making silly videos!!’
‘To the people who nominated and approved me, the Governor General, I’m not sure how the process works, thank you, I am very honoured!!’ he continued.
‘Ok, now I guess it’s off to have a beer with the Governor General and the King? Is that what happens? Is there a secret OAM, underground lair?’ he joked.

Since leaving children’s entertainment, Rees has found viral success through his comedy, fronting skits on Instagram, and entertaining a whole new generation of Australians during lockdown.
As of February this year, Rees has been touring his ‘Let’s Get Regional’ comedy show, bringing his comedy to town across Australia.
Other notable names honoured include cricket legend Glenn McGrath, former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, former WA Premier Mark McGowan, and newly appointed Governor-General Sam Mostyn.
