'Dark spot with white dots' investigated using new UFO research methods

(NewsNation) — The existence of UFOs, aka unidentified aerial phenomena or UAPs, is one of the biggest mysteries of the universe.

The stigma surrounding UFOs has discouraged generations of researchers from taking a closer look, but now, scientists with real academic credentials are investigating UFOs head-on.

Matthew Szydagis, a physics professor at the University of Albany, is one of those scientists and told “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” on Monday that most UFOs his research team caught on camera were something made by humans, such as a drone or helicopter.

“We had the focus of having an instrumented field study for UAPs,” said Szydagis. “It’s not the first, but what we’ve done is publish our work in the highest impact-factor journal to ever carry a paper on this topic.”

Szydagis acknowledged the research led to many objects being found and identified while also discovering one “unidentified object” in July 2021.

“So we found one dark spot with white dots in it in one of our camera systems,” he said. “Now, by itself, that could be anything. It could be a camera artifact or a glitch, but it seemed to have some sort of correspondence, at least to a small degree of statistical significance, with an ionizing radiation event and with Doppler weather radar data hits.”

The object didn’t provide any conclusive data statistically that there was something physical in the sky, according to Syzdagis. Syzdagis, back then, was part of the group UAPx, which was taking part in a documentary “A Tear in the Sky.”

NewsNation has covered the conversation around UFOs since the start, and in that time, there have been a series of congressional hearings about UAPs.

The Department of Defense has also established a UFO reporting bureau, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office.
