THE FRANTIC search for a 78-year-old woman who vanished after leaving her home almost two weeks ago has uncovered her abandoned car.
Christine Murton left her house in Rushmere St Andrew, Ipswich, on Wednesday November 12 and hasn’t been seen since.
Before the mysterious disappearance Christine was caught on CCTV travelling on foot a couple of streets away from her home.
On Wednesday November 19, police shared CCTV footage showing Christine walking along a footpath on the edge of Nacton village.
The video showed her walking in the direction of Decoy Wood, shortly after 2:45pm on the afternoon she went missing.
Her car, a blue Toyota Yaris, has now been located – it was found at a retail park car park in Pinewood area on Thursday 20 November.
Christine is described as being white, of slim build, approximately 5ft 7ins in height with short, dark hair.
She also wears glasses. She is known to enjoy long walks and may have travelled some distance on foot.
There have been several sightings of Christine since she vanished but she has still not been located safe and well.
Police are now redoubling their efforts to find the missing 78-year-old and are asking the public to report any sightings of her immediately.
Detective Superintendent Tom Pearse said: “This weekend we will be continuing and expanding our search operation to locate Christine.
“We continue to ask residents to check their gardens, their sheds and outbuildings and to look through any CCTV they may have and that dog walkers be attentive when walking in woodland, near watercourses and wetlands and to report any information that may assist police.
“I’d like to also reiterate our caution for anyone considering starting their own search activity as the recent rain has made some areas hazardous, and the drop in temperature increases the risk of exposure.
“Every reported sighting is being investigated, and we remain grateful to the public, specialist groups and the media for their support.
“We remain extremely concerned for Christine’s welfare as she is vulnerable and could be confused. Any information anyone has on her whereabouts could be crucial in helping to find her.”
